GameChanger 2.1: Modest Improvements
By Kiril Savino (@kirilnyc)
I’m loving how fast Apple is turning our releases around! GameChanger 2.1 is, as this post’s title implies, a relatively tame release. 2.0 is just a couple of weeks old, and we aimed primarily to address a few more issues that causes the app to exit at odd times (crash), or fail to sync properly.
Specifically:
- fixed an issue where setting a player position could cause a crash
- fixed an issue where switching Advanced Pitch Types on/off in settings could cause a crash
- fixed an issue where players’ names were inserted twice into play-by-play descriptions
- fixed a problem with deactivating or substituting pitchers who have Designated Hitters.
- fixed a series of crashing problems due to data corruption on the phone
- fixed a case where the same batter could end up batting twice in a row
- fixed an issue where the user would be prompted again to enter a new batter, immediately after entering one.
- fixed a crash scenario which caused data to get lost, including play descriptions and occasionally points scored.
* Note: it’s possible with this release that you might see a player suddenly re-named “Missing Player”, or an event in your stream called “Missing Event.” Hit us up with an email if you do. It’s our way of letting you keep scoring even when some data has been corrupted.
And just to keep you all on your feet, we did make one fun feature change in this version: we added a distinction between “Ground Ball” and “Hard Ground Ball” from the main pitch menu.

We’re really excited about some of the insightful kinds of statistics we’re cooking up, and this one will let us focus on another category: hard-hit balls. Expect some big advances in our statistics, particularly what we like to call “non-results-based” or “teaching” statistics, over the next month.
As always, let us know how we’re doing!
